A very common home treatment for low back pain is the common garlic. Rubbing your back with the oil used to fry the garlic cloves in can give great relief. Fry ten whole cloves of garlic in 60 ml oil in a regular frying pan. You can use mustard oil, sesame oil or coconut oil for frying, depending on your preferred aroma. Fry the garlic cloves over a slow fire until they brown. Discard the cloves and set the oil aside to cool. Massage the garlic oil vigorously on your lower back, cover with a cotton t-shirt and let stay for three hours. You can then take a warm water bath afterwards to get rid of the goo.  Continue treatment for at least fifteen days.

Another home treatment for low back pain makes use of lemons.  Squeeze the juice from one regular sized lemon and mix it with a pinch of common salt.  Drink the concoction twice daily.  It is said to give some degree of relief from the pain.

Massages and the application of warm pain relieving liniments can also be used a first aid for low back pain. However,  you must be aware that using the wrong type of massage or applying any strong pressure can also do more harm than good and may just exacerbate the pain.  Therefore,  it is always prudent to consult with your health practitioner to ascertain the cause of your low back pain before embarking on any self medication regimens.
